Kent makes large-scale abstract paintings built from geometric, pastel-colored forms set against black grounds, work she's described as growing out of a private visual language she and her twin sister developed as children. Before turning to art full time, she spent two years in the Peace Corps in Romania in the late 1990s, an experience of displacement and translation she's said still shapes how she thinks about communication that doesn't rely on words. Her Victoria/Veronica series has been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and, in 2022, in a group show at the Guggenheim, "Sensory Poetics: Collecting Abstraction."
