Art by Chor Boogie

Chor Boogie is a self-taught American spray-paint muralist who started painting at 10 and adopted his name at 11, building a career entirely outside formal art training. While working on a hundred-foot mural in San Francisco's Tenderloin district, he was stabbed by thieves trying to steal his supplies; then-mayor Gavin Newsom visited him in the hospital and later helped him finish the piece. He was invited to paint a public art project connected to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His work leans on saturated, almost fluorescent color fields, treating spray paint as a fine-art medium rather than a street shortcut.
