Dulk, the working name of Valencia-born artist Antonio Segura Donat, paints surreal, richly detailed hybrid creatures, part animal, part landscape, drawn from a childhood habit of copying exotic-animal illustrations out of his parents' old encyclopedias. The name itself wasn't his invention: a friend introduced him to graffiti at 19 and suggested he take the nickname of a fellow painter who'd recently died, and he kept it as a quiet tribute. He briefly studied economics before switching to a diploma in illustration and graphic design, and still works commercially in advertising and animation alongside his mural practice, represented by Thinkspace Projects.
