Heimler is a French-Hungarian painter and muralist, born in Paris in 1964 and trained at the École des Beaux-Arts there, who moved to Berlin in 1988 and founded the city's first postwar Jewish artist collective, Meshulash, in the early 1990s. His mural Mauerspringer ("The Wall Jumper"), showing a figure leaping across a barrier, is part of the East Side Gallery, the surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall now covered in public art. In 2010, after experiencing antisemitism in Berlin, he relocated to New Zealand, where he's continued painting murals, including work as far afield as Chengdu, China.
