Kruyder was a Dutch painter, born in Baarn in 1881, who worked mostly in and around Amsterdam and, from 1930, the Gooi region, active in several regional artist organizations including the Gooise Kunstkring. He was married to fellow painter Jo Bouman, and collaborated in his early career with painter Henri Boot in Haarlem. His paintings, still traded through Dutch art dealers today, tend toward everyday, unglamorous subjects, a man with a pipe, wildflowers, rendered with a directness that kept him well outside the major movements of his time without much interest in changing that.
