Esajas, a Dutch artist based in Amsterdam, works in drawing and painting shaped by Black feminist thought and literature, citing James Baldwin as an influence, building scenes of interlocking figures painted from constantly shifting, disorienting perspectives. She completed a master's degree at the Sandberg Institute in 2023, and in 2025 won the 13th ABN AMRO Art Award, a prize that came with a solo exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, a publication designed by Irma Boom, and acquisition into the bank's art collection. That same year she also had a solo show, "In the Garden of My Good Days," at Museum de Fundatie.
