Jacques Martin-Ferrières (1893-1972), a French painter and son of the well-known Post-Impressionist Henri Martin, under whom he trained alongside Fernand Cormon. He developed a technique built from short, opaque, mosaic-like brushstrokes, and won a string of official honors through the Salon des Artistes Français in the 1920s. His career was interrupted by World War II: he served in the French Resistance, was taken prisoner, and lost an eye in captivity, not resuming serious painting until around 1950. His later landscapes, especially snow scenes with heavy impasto surfaces, were the subject of a Paris retrospective in 1965.
