Fetting co-founded Galerie am Moritzplatz in West Berlin in the late 1970s, a gallery that became a launching point for the "Neue Wilde" or "Junge Wilde" movement, a return to raw, expressive, aggressively physical painting after decades of more conceptual, minimalist dominance. He repeatedly painted the Berlin Wall itself, including a work that fuses homage to Van Gogh with the Wall as subject, treating the barrier as a genuine landscape rather than just a political symbol. His best-known public work, away from painting, is a 3.4-meter bronze statue of former Chancellor Willy Brandt, standing outside German Social Democratic Party headquarters in Berlin.
