Kraftwerk Berlin occupies a decommissioned combined heat and power plant in Mitte, a raw, cavernous industrial building that became one of Berlin's most important venues for the city's techno scene after reunification, closely associated with the experimental Berlin Atonal festival that has staged sound and visual art performances inside its turbine hall since the building's earliest years as a cultural venue. In more recent years it has also hosted major large-scale immersive art exhibitions, including digital installation work from studios like teamLab, using the building's sheer scale and industrial darkness the way a conventional white-cube gallery never could.

Programming shifts constantly between club nights, festival events, and standalone art exhibitions, so check exactly what's on before assuming a visit will be gallery-like, this is as often a nightlife venue as it is an exhibition space. If you're going for a specific art installation, dress for an industrial building rather than a climate-controlled museum, exposed concrete, minimal heating in winter, and echoing acoustics are all part of the raw character that makes the space work for the art it hosts.
