Personal Reflection
I don’t think I’d ever really listened to a classical accordion before. I had a pretty fixed idea of what an accordion sounds like. I associated it with folk music and lively celebrations. It was something entirely different. Sometimes it sounded like an organ, sometimes almost like an orchestra. I kept forgetting there was just one person on stage. It was very special because of the sound of the waves and the whole ambient, also the fact I was there celebrating wedding anniversary with my husband.

An open-air classical concert by Croatian accordion virtuoso Ivan Šverko, featuring a program that bridges Baroque masterpieces with contemporary works written for the classical accordion. The evening included Bach’s French Suite No. 5, original compositions by Jukka Tiensuu, Staffan Mosenmark, and Anatolij Belošicki, as well as lyrical piano miniatures by Edvard Grieg reimagined for accordion. Performed at sunset overlooking the Adriatic, the concert showcased the expressive range and virtuosity of the modern classical accordion.
