About This Artwork
The ruins of the Festival Club stand as a hauntingly beautiful monument to Ibiza’s early tourism boom. Opened in 1972, this sprawling, multi-level venue was the island’s very first major open-air entertainment complex. Designed to host grand performance spectacles, it featured an amphitheater-style terrace, multiple bars, a restaurant, and even a mock bullring. Its success was short-lived. Due to skyrocketing fuel costs during the 1970s oil crisis—which severely impacted Mediterranean tourism—combined with mounting financial debts, the venue shuttered permanently in 1974 after just two seasons. The Atmosphere Today Decades of abandonment have transformed the concrete skeleton of the club into a massive, open-air canvas. Nature and street art have completely reclaimed the site: • The Graffiti: Nearly every square inch of crumbling concrete is covered in layered, vibrant murals and tagging from local and international street artists. • The Architecture: The decaying amphitheater steps and empty bars evoke the feeling of an ancient ruin, contrasting sharply with Ibiza's modern, polished nightlife. • The Vibe: Silent, surreal, and deeply nostalgic, it is a paradise for urban explorers, photographers, and those looking to glimpse the forgotten layers of the island's history.
