What I find particularly Belgrade about this mural is that it is not a celebration of official history. It honors a cultural icon remembered for wit, charisma, and everyday urban spirit rather than political power. The weathered wall around the portrait adds to its character, making it feel like a conversation with the city.
About This Artwork
Portrait of the legendary Serbian actor Bora Todorović. The text reads: “Šta ima novo u našem Partizanu?” (“What’s new with our Partizan?”) This references both Todorović’s beloved status among Partizan supporters and his image as a quintessential Belgrade character. The mural is located in Dorćol, a neighborhood deeply tied to Belgrade’s cultural identity. It was originally created by the group “Grobarski Treš Romantizam” (GTR) and has been restored multiple times after vandalism.
