About This Artwork

Painted around 1928, Collioure, Return of the Catch captures fishermen unloading their catch in the Mediterranean town of Collioure. Rather than treating the harbour as a picturesque landscape, Jac Martin-Ferrières makes labour and collective movement the real subject, using rich colour, textured brushwork and reflected light to turn an everyday working scene into something almost monumental.
