Personal Reflection
It makes me feel like i am being watched, but not exactly sure why. I was standing in front of this painting for a while. And the feeling of unconfortablnes was the thing that kept me standing there. Even though ni liked the forms of the masks, but the eyes got me.
About This Artwork
A compact, mixed-media composition of three stylized faces or masks pressed together, painted with energetic brushwork and vivid, sometimes jarring colors. The work is executed in watercolor, gouache and ink on paper and is titled "Maskers / Masks" by Herman Kruyder (circa 1923), in the Frans Hals Museum collection. The layered color, strong outlines and emphatic eyes create a theatrical, slightly unsettling effect that blurs individual identity and mask-like presentation.
